Multani mitti has been used in Indian households for many years now. Most popularly, multani mitti is used for its cooling effect and for beautifying or nourishing our skin. But the lesser known fact is that multani mitti is great for our hair too and can act as a shampoo!
Multani mitti, also known as fuller’s earth, is a clay-like material which is known to be a great absorbent of dirt and oil which makes it a great cleanser for people with oily scalp. But people with dry scalp need to be careful and not use it too frequently as it will make your scalp even more dry.
Multani mitti has the ability to hydrate your scalp which stops the secretion of natural oils from our scalp and it is also great for eradicating any bacterial growth or dandruff. A 2015 study also states that multani mitti works as a purifying agent by removing chemicals from your hair.
Here’s how to wash hair with multani mitti
Buy some multani mitti from your local store or an online retailer. Take 2-3 tbsp of multani mitti in a bowl.
Add some water to the multani mitti to make a thick paste of it. Make sure you don’t add too much water or it will become runny and difficult to apply. Also, don’t leave any lumps and make a smooth paste.
Now, apply this paste to your scalp and lengths of your hair. You can apply it with your hands or you can also use a brush.
After applying the multani mitti paste, you need to massage your scalp well. Massage it into your scalp for at least 5 minutes.
After massaging your hair, leave the paste in your hair for 10-20 minutes and then rinse it off. No need to apply any shampoo or conditioner.
As you can see multani mitti is a great replacement for your chemical infused shampoos which will protect and nourish your hair!
