Chhattisgarh Tourism to launch National Tribal Dance Festival 2023 with a conclave in Delhi

Paving a way for the grand success of National Tribal Dance Festival (NDTF) 2023, the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) is organising a full day tourism conclave and cultural showcase in New Delhi on October 21.

Scheduled to be held at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts (KNMA) in Saket, the first ever tourism conclave by CTB will bring together thinking heads and experts from the fields of culture & tourism, administrators and investors with special interest in the state.

The idea behind the event, shared CTB, is to re-position Chhattisgarh as a state with numerous opportunities in tourism including its rich intangible culture.

The conclave will reportedly open with a press conference by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel who will apprise the media on the initiatives taken under his leadership in the field of tourism and culture for promoting Chhattisgarh.

The NDTF is a grand showcase of tribal culture where crafts demonstrations and tribal products are put on display, making it a great opportunity for tourists to experience tribal culture, arts and crafts at one place. Last year, this festival saw a participation of over 3,000 artistes from India and abroad, who gathered to perform their traditional dance and music.

“Our tribal population is what makes for the rich heritage of the state. Chhattisgarh government is committed to not only preserving the tribal culture, but also help them adapt to the changing times. We want to see them integrate with the rest of the world, create equal opportunities, while ensuring that their traditions are not compromised. The festival is a step towards that,” said CM Baghel.

“Chhattisgarh is one of the young states of India but has a history and heritage that goes back several millennia. While the region is blessed with natural beauty, the uniqueness of the place are its people – indigenous tribes that were earliest inhabitants of India,” he added.

Chhattisgarh now has a new state Tourism Policy that focuses on various themes of tourism within the state – eco-tourism, ethnic tourism, and adventure tourism among others. Focussed on the growth of tourism within the state, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board is incentivising the involvement of local entrepreneurs and private investors in the development of tourism.

Ever since he formed the government, CM Baghel has been emphasising on people development initiatives. The government of Chhattisgarh has been particularly working towards the welfare of its tribal communities. The idea being to create opportunities for development that involves the stakeholders of the region.

“The focus of the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board has been on creating platforms to promote tribal crafts, culture and heritage. The state has been striving to help tribal communities become part of the mainstream while preserving their distinct way of life. We have been working on several programmes pushing tribal products and food and enabling employment opportunities for our people. Skill development among the communities is another important aspect that the board has been working on,” said Anil Kumar Sahu, MD, CTB.

The Chhattisgarh Tourism Board has been working consistently to build on community based experiences as part of its cultural or heritage tourism initiatives. The intent being to drive them sensitively so employment can be generated for artisans, performers and locals without affecting their eco-system.

“National Tribal Dance Festival has been a pivotal initiative to boost state tourism and generate opportunities of employment for local people. The Chhattisgarh Tourism Board recognises the growing demand for special community based experiences. We invite people to come and join us in the celebrations of the National Tribal Dance Festival and also explore the tribal areas of the state to experience Experience tribal culture and traditions,” said Tamradhwaj Sahu, Minister of Tourism.

The Tourism Conclave in Delhi will have panel discussions focussed on building tourism and promoting arts and culture from the state and will end with a marquee performance. The event is by invitation only.

During the event, initiatives in the field of handicrafts will be also showcased along with other entrepreneurial products. There will also be a demonstration by a Biti Chitra artist. Bastar tea and coffee will be served to the invitees at the event.
